Taylor’s Week 2 games to watch in High School Football

The Big Jab

Week 2 Power Rankings:

  1. Leavitt Hornets
  2. Portland Bulldogs
  3. Oxford Hills Vikings
  4. Thornton Academy Trojans
  5. Bonny Eagle Scots
  6. Sanford Spartans
  7. Bangor Rams
  8. Windham Eagles
  9. South Portland Red Riots
  10. Messalonskee Eagles

Games To Watch:

Class A:

Thornton Academy Trojans @ Oxford Hills Vikings

The highly anticipated rematch of last year’s Class A State Championship Game is tonight, kicking off at 7:00 PM from the Gouin Complex in South Paris. TA is coming off a tough loss to the Portland Bulldogs, while OH is coming off a strong showing vs. the Lewiston Blue Devils. The Vikings won big by a score of 43-0 with an impressive defense showing, on the offensive side they were led by Brady Truman who threw four touchdowns.

Class B:

Falmouth Navigators @ Lawrence Bulldogs

The Lawrence Bulldogs and Falmouth Navigators both are coming off disappointing Week 1 performances. The Navigators suffered defeat at the hands of the Messalonskee Eagles, who clinched their first season-opening win since 2017 with a 47-8 victory. Lawrence played up a class to play the Bangor Rams at Cameron Stadium and fell 21-6. Both programs will be hungry for their first victory in 2023 tonight at Keyes Field in Fairfield when they kick off at 7:00 PM.

Class C:

Oceanside Mariners @ Hermon Hawks

Pottle Field in Hermon will be rocking tonight when things kick off at 7 for a highly anticipated Class C North matchup. The Hermon Hawks host the Oceanside Mariners with both teams coming off impressive first impressions.

Class D:

York Wildcats @ Wells Warriors

When the Wells Warriors kick off at Warrior Memorial Field in Wells tonight vs. the York Wildcats they will look to keep the momentum rolling. Wells had an impressive 31-0 victory over the Raiders of Oak Hill last weekend. For the Wildcats, it’s all about the bounce back after losing 41-14 to Cheverus.

8-Man

Waterville Purple Panthers @ Mt. Ararat Eagles

Similar to the Class D matchup when the game gets underway from Mt. Ararat Stadium Field in Topsham, the Eagles will be looking to get on track after facing the defending champion Yarmouth Clippers last week where they lost 30-6. Waterville on the other hand took it to Spruce Mountain in a 34-0 and collected their first win in pursuit of a third straight 8-Man Large North Regional title.

Notable:

The first two of the seven Maine vs. New Hampshire border battle games will happen this week as Sanford travels to Dunaway Field in Dover to play the Green Wave and Scarborough hosts the Bishop Guertin Cardinals of Nashua.
