Taylor’s Week 4 HS Football Games to Watch
Power Rankings:
- Leavitt Hornets
- Portland Bulldogs
- Oxford Hills Vikings
- Thornton Academy Trojans
- Sanford Spartans
- Bonny Eagle Scots
- Windham Eagles
- Messalonskee Eagles
- Kennebunk Rams
- Foxcroft Academy Ponies
Games To Watch:
Class A: Oxford Hills Vikings (3-0) @ Leavitt Hornets (3-0)
I will classify this one as a Class A matchup considering the anticipation ahead of it. The defending Class A champion will meet the defending Class C champion when the Oxford Hills Vikings and the Leavitt Hornets meet at Libby Field in Turner. The game will be played Saturday night, and both teams enter the match up carrying win streaks of 14 games (tied for longest active win streak in Maine. The next closest is Foxcroft Academy who enters this week winners of 11 in a row). It’s safe to say the Vikings are going into the Hornets’ nest, which team will leave Libby Field Saturday unscathed?
Class B: Deering Rams (3-0) @ Kennebunk Rams (3-0)
If you are a Class B South Football fan make sure to scurry over for the 6:00 pm kickoff at Veterans Memorial Field in Kennebunk between the two remaining undefeated teams in B South. Deering got a gut-check victory last week vs. the Biddeford Tigers, while Kennebunk has been rolling their opponents. Last week Austin West, Maddox Ralls, and Moose Keys combined for 238 rushing yards vs. the Westbrook Blue Blazes.
Class C: Medomak Valley Panthers (3-0) @ Hermon Hawks (1-2)
The Medomak Valley Panthers may be facing their toughest test in Class C yet, and it comes on the road at Pottle Field against the Hermon Hawks. The Hawks come in looking to break a two-game losing streak after playing some tough competition, the Panthers meanwhile are looking to keep pace with their Midcoast rival (Oceanside Mariners) who are also undefeated in Class C North.
Class D: Poland Knights (3-0) @ Freeport Falcons (2-1)
The Freeport Falcons are coming off a short week where they suffered a tough loss to the John Bapst Crusaders and will have to show some resilience when they face a Poland Knights team that is 3-0 for the first time in program history. Poland has only given up 6 points defensively so far this season and on offense they’re led by Isaac Ramsdell who last week had 23 carries for 264 rushing yards and converted 2 2-pt conversions. The Falcons will be tested when they host the Knights at Samuelson Track & Field.
8-Man: Maranacook Black Bears (3-0) @ Sacopee Valley Hawks (2-1)
If the Maranacook Black Bears football team is anything, it’s efficient. Maranacook did not need many plays in their 73-0 victory over Traip Academy last week when they ran just 19 total plays. On the defensive side of the ball, Maranacook held the Rangers to 68 total yards of offense, a 0-8 conversion rate on third down, and a 0-2 conversion rate on fourth down. The Black Bears now hit the road this weekend and will travel to Hiram to play the Sacopee Valley Hawks at Sacopee Valley HS Field. The Hawks are coming off a tough loss to the Dirigo Cougars and are looking to bounce back and keep pace in a competitive 8-man Small Southern Region.
